Reputation

Specialty Racing Products has built a reputation on design of Titanium replacement bolts for bicycle-specific applications.  These bolts are made from Titanium 6-4, which is a Titanium alloy that is composed from a mix of 90% Titanium, 6% Aluminum and 4% Vanadium.  Most bike parts are made from Titanium 3-2.5, not the 6-4 used by SRP. Why?  Ti 6-4 is used widely in the aerospace industry, and is not commercially available in tubing form as used in the bike manufacturing industry.  It is however, available as raw material in rod, billet and ingot forms.  Ti 6-4 is better suited to making bolts than frames, since it has a higher tensile and yield-strength than Ti 3-2.5 making it stronger, but also stiff - way too stiff for a rideable bike frame!
